Session 1: Deep Ecology and Conservation of Nature
Deep Ecology is a philosophy of nature which explores the spiritual disease that allows humans to attack the biological fabric out of which our own lives too are woven. This stems from human-centeredness and the ensuing illusion of separation from nature. Utilising poetry and song, John Seed explores the philosophy of deep ecology and how it helps empower us in our efforts to protect the living Earth
Session 2: The Council of All Beings
This is an experiential deep ecology workshop which allows us to break through the illusion of separation from the natural world and to deepen our felt connection with the living Earth.
Session 3: The Buddha Touched the Earth
On the eve of his enlightenment, Buddha was assailed one last time by Mara, the forces of negativity and doubt, who challenged him by asking “By whose authority do you claim this supposed enlightenment?” As depicted in countless images and icons, the Buddha replied by touching the Earth and the Earth roared her assent.
The Buddha was born under a tree, enlightened under a tree, died under a tree and spent most of his life in the forest.
In this presentation, John Seed explores the many synergies between Buddhism and deep ecology. See http://fore.yale.edu/files/Seed_buddha-touched-the-earth.pdf
